Expanding Accessibility & Business Opportunities at Beitostølen
Visual Interpreter
When I was hired as a Visual Interpreter for a blind participant at Ridderuka 2019, I saw more than just an opportunity to assist—I saw a strategic moment to test, promote, and expand U-GO. By fully immersing myself in the event, I not only gained hands-on experience in accessibility but also secured a global business opportunity that took U-GO to New York. 🚀

The Opportunity
Combining Accessibility & Strategic Business Development
Ridderuka at Beitostølen is the world’s largest annual winter sports event for visually and physically impaired athletes. In 2019, I was hired by NAV Hjelpemiddelsentral Oslo as a visual interpreter for a blind participant—who was also the leader of RP-foreningen and chair of Ridderrennet.
Beyond providing accessibility, this opportunity aligned perfectly with my work on U-GO, allowing me to test, promote, and connect with key stakeholders in the adaptive sports and assistive technology communities.
Industry: Accessibility, Assistive Technology & Sports Inclusion
Challenge: Provide real-time visual interpretation while leveraging the event to showcase U-GO and build strategic connections.
Key Objectives: Ensure full participation for my assigned user, explore business opportunities for U-GO, and expand my network within the global accessibility community.
“Ridderuka er verdens største årlige vintersportsuke for syns- og bevegelseshemmede.”

Business & Product Validation:
• Used Ridderuka as a real-world test environment for U-GO, gathering live feedback from end users.
• Engaged with leaders in the assistive technology sector to assess the product-market fit.
High-Level Networking & Global Expansion:
• Attended board meetings and engaged with decision-makers in accessibility and inclusion.
• Presented U-GO at a strategic meeting with Achilles International, a global disability advocacy organization, leading to an invitation to New York to introduce U-GO to an international audience.
• Had the opportunity to meet with the Norwegian Prime Minister during the event.
